At night, Inaho sat at her desk. While looking at a map, she listed the addresses that seemed to belong to the executives' homes. However, she hit a dead end when it came to planning her next move. Opening the messaging app on her mobile device, she tapped on the recipient labeled 'Kon Haneda' She typed, 'I need your help with something...' and sent the message. A few minutes later, he received a reply.
"Hmm, I'll help, but there's a condition. Let me scavenge through the junk at Kasumi Pond again! Your grandpa has the key, right?"
In deceiving her grandfather, Inaho felt conflicted, but she had no other choice and accepted the condition.
As the night grew darker and her grandparents slept, Inaho took hold of the key to Kasumi Pond's gate hanging by the entrance. Quietly slipping out of the house, she found a boy straddling a small motorbike in front of her home. He waved with one hand. As Inaho approached, she asked,
"Kon, what's with the motorcycle?"
"Heh, I built it myself. Just hop on."
he proudly replied, handing her a helmet.
"Wow, impressive! By the way..."
Inaho leaned in close while sitting on the pillion seat.
"Promise me that we'll return at a convenient time, so I won't get scolded if we're caught."
"I get it! Ready to go?"
Kon blushed as Inaho tightly held onto his back. She seemed oblivious, and he adjusted the helmet unnecessarily before revving the engine.
Upon arriving at Kasumi Pond, Kon removed his helmet and said,
"I see. Ms,Meir is so... You want to investigate any strange research signs at Oyama Biotech, right?'
Confirming that no one else was around, Inaho asked,
"Yeah, that's the plan. What should I do next?"
"Let's start by planting a high-performance bug and see where that leads us for our next move."
While expressing her concerns about Meir, Inaho followed Kon. The small lights they carried flickered in the darkness at the edge of the mist-covered pond. To Inaho, some of the objects Kon picked up seemed like mere trash, but he collected them with delight. In the quiet of the night, Inaho watched him and chuckled.
"Kon never changes." she remarked.
"Really? Well, Inaho, you're quick to act when you come up with an idea too. You haven't changed either. Probably just influenced by some movie, right? You always act on half-baked ideas and end up in trouble." Kon teased.
"Ugh, seriously! We've circled this place enough. Let's head back!" Inaho retorted.
"Well, fine. It's a promise, after all. We shouldn't get caught like we used to." he agreed.
"Yeah, remember when Grandpa caught us, and we went without snacks for a week? Looking back, maybe my lack of sugar during that time affected my ability to study..."
"Definitely not," he interrupted.
"Huh? look at."
As they conversed, Inaho's light illuminated an artificial stone block about the height of a person lying near the edge of the murky pond.
Intrigued, Inaho tilted her head.
"Was this here when we arrived? Some construction material, maybe?"
"Maybe it washed up just now? Looks like a coffin."
"Seriously, stop it in the middle of the night!"
Meanwhile, Kon rummaged through his bag. Inaho knew what he was up to.
"Kon, you're not planning to open it, are you?"
"Well, yeah, but just a little... The pond only carries 'things,' so don't worry. Maybe there's a valuable treasure inside?"
Despite Inaho's initial objection, curiosity got the better of her, and she silently gave her consent.
Kon removed the large bolts from the corners of the stone coffin using a tool. They placed their lights on the ground and pushed the heavy lid with all their might. The eerie sound of stone scraping echoed in the silent night. Finally, with a thud, the lid shifted and revealed the darkness within.
As they peered inside, simultaneous screams reverberated through the surroundings.
Trembling, they returned to the motorcycle, catching their breath.
"K-Kon! Was that...a-a corpse?" Inaho stammered.
"N-No, it's probably a doll. Don't be scared!"
"What!? Who was pulled you up?"
"At that time, I fell down because of you. let's go home for now."
Despite their argument, both still breathed heavily as they left the scene.
When they arrived back home, Inaho got off his motorcycle and said,
"Remember, we keep what happened earlier a secret, okay?"
"Understood. Thanks to this, I've got all the parts I need. If that thing turns out to be something, I'll let you know."
Kon replied, waving as he left.
Alone, Inaho sighed.
"I can't believe we're going back to that place with Grandpa in the morning..."
And as morning approached...
"----Charging initiated. -----Restart program -------20% complete-----..."
In a world of floating only text, unaware of her identity or location, a single consciousness began to awaken.
